Complete Rewires

Full House Rewiring in Bristol

A complete rewire replaces the cables, accessories and consumer unit throughout the property, giving your Bristol home an electrical installation designed for how you live now and tested to current standards.

First-fix cabling during a full house rewire

When a Full Rewire Is the Right Answer

A full house rewire is a significant project, so we only recommend one when the assessment supports it. Typical situations include original wiring that has deteriorated, installations with rubber or early PVC cable, homes with several generations of undocumented alterations, and properties being fully renovated where it makes sense to start again rather than patch around old circuits.

Many of Bristol’s Victorian and Edwardian terraces, and a good number of its 1930s and post-war homes, still run partly on wiring installed decades ago. These installations were designed for a handful of lights and sockets per floor, not for kitchens full of appliances, home offices, electric showers and, increasingly, electric vehicle charging.

How We Approach a Complete Rewire

Every rewire starts with an electrical plan. We walk each room with you and agree socket positions, lighting, switching, dedicated circuits for the kitchen and utility areas, and provision for anything you may add later such as an EV charger, outdoor power or data cabling. Getting this right at the planning stage is what makes the finished installation feel designed rather than merely replaced.

The work is then carried out in two stages. First fix installs the new cables, back boxes and containment while floors and walls are accessible. Second fix follows once plastering or making good is complete, fitting sockets, switches, light fittings and the new consumer unit. The installation is inspected and tested throughout and certified on completion, with the notification required under Part P of the Building Regulations handled for you where applicable.

Living Through a Rewire

Rewiring an occupied home is entirely possible with the right sequencing. We plan the order of rooms, keep power available where we can, protect floors and furniture, and tell you in advance when interruptions will happen. Read more on our process page, or see what influences the cost of a rewire.

Full House Rewiring FAQs

How long does a full rewire take?

It depends on the size and layout of the property and whether it is occupied. We give a realistic programme as part of your quotation rather than a generic figure.

Do I have to move out?

Not usually. Most rewires in occupied homes are sequenced room by room so that you can stay, although some households prefer to be away for the noisiest first-fix days.

Will you replaster after chasing?

We make good our own chases to a plaster-ready finish as standard; final skimming and decoration are agreed with you at quotation stage so there are no surprises.

Will I get certificates?

Yes. You receive an Electrical Installation Certificate and the appropriate Building Regulations compliance certificate on completion.
